You can be the best player in the world and still get fucked to the bottom place if everyone decided to dump their skills while you're in the lead. For that reason, people tend to be more lenient during Mario Kart events.
Also Choco being the ultimate Zako is just a meme at this point.
Puyo Puyo is different. It's a 1 VS 1 skill based zero sum game. Even if you have more people participating, they still each needs to fight in a 1 VS 1 format.
Same with Overwatch, or Valorant, or any other competitive games that will pit an individual or a team in a 1 VS 1 format. Heck, there are even people complained that the Pokemon Unite wasn't that fun to watch because it was almost obvious the JP members were going to sweep that one.
