Towa is a funny example of how schizos can maintain afloat a relationship that would otherwise go down the drain as soon as it turned out to be one-sided.

RBC's not half bad at English. She reads English chat messages out loud and answers them in English. Her accent is adorably scuffed, but she clearly understands.
Subaru isn't confident at all with her eigo, but she makes those English cue cards for her zatsudans and can also clearly understand what she's reading.

Purityfags want to be lied to, that is just a fact. You want your oshis to selectively edit out males who aren't family from their stories and only show purely platonic relationships with vtuber males in public if they feel they can collab at all that is. The issue isn't that Towa lied to the japanese, it is that she didn't put on a convincing enough lie to make them ok with it. The difference may seem subtle, but it is actually quite large.

The issue isn't that grandiose, Towa had antis from the start so people rolled with the negativity instead of just taking her word for it. Sure she should have said that those were just her friends on voice chat , the truth , but she already had so little confidence in herself she had to think of something unimpeachable, something like "these are cover staff actually" kind of silly response, but an understandable one in the circumstances. Then cover went full dmca on the clips and it blew up more.
