Everyone should be doing it to some extend, and the general improvement it brings is often positive in all aspects for everyone.

However, once you've found something you like, getting the training in, the basics in, will always be hard and be a chore. Ina has gotten here not because she only do reps for fun, she has also spoken about the more uninteresting parts during lessons that she had to take.
To gain depth in anything you need discipline to go through the tough bits, otherwise you would just drop once it gets hard and will be unable to pursue anything deeper
