A lot of them are better singers technically than the majority of pop stars. And that's a not le wrong generation thing its just that with pitch correction software as good as it is pop stars don't really need to be terrific, just marketable.
Compared to people who are actually great singers though who can perform amazingly on a consistent basis and completely live, such as those in music theater or opera, none of the girls are really up to that standard. But it's unreasonable to demand idol streamers be that skilled.

It's sad what technology has done to modern pop music. Practically none of the big stars today--even the ones supposedly known for being great singers--can actually perform their own music, because plebs don't care if shit is fake as long as the singer is hot and it sounds "decent" (read: pitch corrected to hell and back). It's so bad that if Michael Jackson had been born in the late 90s or early 2000s rather than 1958, he would undoubtedly have languished in obscurity because looks are everything and performance ability no longer matters.

It's not, you can scrounge AKB's hundreds of idols and you can find a lot of 'not that good' singers.

Idols' main selling point is primarily charm plus perseverance as a secondary (hard work mantra etc) while a singer's main selling point is her vocal prowess.

You can watch an idol train her voice to be better than before but most will come watch her because of her charm or perseverance in working hard to sound better.

Not sure what you are linking that post for? Writing a lot of words about why you think someone is good and using technical terms doesn't make an opinion any more correct. I'm not even saying she is bad just that hyperbolic statements like those make me think that people aren't being serious. Gura has highs and lows performance wise. This is mainly because of her song selections. She sometimes insist singing songs that are out of her register. She's more of a crooner or a taylor swift pre-pop. She fails when she pushes too hard. She can definitely hit the notes if she tried really hard but you can tell she is straining her voice. I have, Gura blew her out of the water on that one. Within 20 seconds you can tell Suisei isn't even in the same league. Are you comparing Suisei's live version, or do you not understand the massive difference post-production makes? Remember we don't have any examples of a post-production Gura song yet, all of the singing we have from her is live.

Anon, listen objectively, with no bias, headphones in, volume up, listen to their voices in this first 30 second introduction part of this song. Gura crushes her.

I'm not hating by any means, either. This isn't to put Suisei down. I like her, I want to see all the girls keep improving and succeeding. I'm just making observations on skill as someone with a background in vocal knowledge who spends hours practicing singing every day. Gura is better. And Gura doesn't even try her hardest during this song, in the later parts she relapses to her more cutesy character voice as she often does when she's nervous. She didn't even stand up for this stream. And it was still clearly better at parts.

Because again, I've been practicing for years, and I am very much around Suisei's exact level, I recognize the same mistakes she makes as things I struggle with. I try to emulate techniques Gura does and I can't even approach it. I have professional training and I know the science behind singing, it's not just some nebulous poorly understood magic, it's actually a very well-researched field. If you can't hear the difference between them you probably just don't have a very well trained ear or much musical experience.
