Bring less IRL shit into it. A lot of vtubers really just treat it as a gimmick. "Normal streamer with an anime avatar" shouldn't be normal. Yes, the audience rarely gives a single fuck about lore or anything like that but that's because most vtubers (western or otherwise, it's all of them really) have cultivated the mentality of them being either ironic about it or just treat it as normal streaming. I'm not saying they need to play a character at all times, just lean into it a little bit more for the fun factor. The less ironic the better.
