Live2D is fucking garbage. It continues to be garbage. The fact it won out annoys the shit out of me, worse, the fact people keep hiring shit-tier riggers.
The only person that has managed to make it work well is that Denchi fag with uh, Vtube Studio was it? Yeah that's it.
I remember trying to make a similar tool for 2D animation for a game for YaBASIC on PS2, but YaBASIC was so insanely slow I gave it up and forgot all about it. The fact the idea actually does work makes me immensely happy, if only I remembered.
Hopefully more people take it up, or more competitors to Vtube Studio at least come about so shittier software dies out.
There's no excuse for the garbage like what happened with Gura, Kiara and such.
At least with 3D you can get a decent style or realism very easily.
See CodeMiko here, or another Miko, Sakura Miko, 2 wildly different styles but both work well. The hardware costs for doing what CodeMiko does is excessive, but you can do cheaper detection very easily with simpler trackers if you just want basic detection like hand-position sans fingers. (possibly using image detection with a camera for fingers if you really want to)
There's multiple ways you can go about it.
Nijisanji uses pure image recognition for Niji3D, which always cracks me up whenever it messes up when things go out of the cameras field of view.
A combination of hand-trackers and image recognition is the best of both worlds. You can get much better precision and you won't need expensive finger tracking, you just use the camera. Finger tracking on cameras is really good now. It's not like you will be needing to track them anywhere else really, only when you are explicitly facing them at the camera.
