He even refused to go to his granddaughter's school play, because he had to save Daniel and told her he was a very close friend, probably the only scene where he's so open about his feelings towards SG-1. He wasn't just a boss to these guys, he always did everything he could to help them, without thinking about himself. He once even asked Carter whether he should step down as a commander of the SGC if it meant buying her time to save Teal'c, before the new administration stepped in. He didn't care about himself, his career or his position. He only cared about his friends. I'm glad they named a spaceship after him when Don S. Davis died, he absolutely deserved it.
