Since the project always had an expiration date, they just kept going without planning on renewing it. But they offered her the choice to become more like a regular Holo. She'll likely no longer get a shitload of music production by cover anymore, and will have to do her own solo stuff if she wants to, but will still be part of the group projects. Since she seems to enjoy streaming and being a part of it, and also probably sees more potential earnings for her as a regular member, she easily agreed to it and didn't want to retire the character entirely.
Thus the new model that stands out much less near the other girls, unlike the previous one that looked super weird during Beyond the Stage.
Sora will likely still get produced by the company because she's too much of a face of Hololive to suddenly have a sharp decline in productivity, they wouldn't want that.
