The FGC loves perpetuating this story how it's no different from any other video game, but when you have to spend an hour doing the tutorial by climbing the game's fundamentals in both strange inputs and mechanics, then having to pick and learn a character that fits your playstyle by memorizing their normals and combo links, learning the match-ups based on your strengths and weaknesses... Well congratulations, you have only completed step 1! You still have a long way to go before you would be competent enough to try and compete online when you don't even know about the frame data yet.
Meanwhile, if you go and boot up any shooter, platformer, or a puzzle game, you learn the game as you play. You don't need to jump through several hoops before you can actually play it.
