Really, the ASMR community has always had this issue of it being misunderstood and occasionally maligned by those who don't feel it or have not bothered to try and understand it. It has always had a lewd stigma, thanks to creators like Hungry Lips in the early days and more recent things like the "ear licking meta" on Twitch and Noel (and her copycats), which is just softcore porn that may or may not contain sincere attempts to trigger the viewer's ASMR. Noel's ASMR content on her main channel is excluded because it is sincerely created and legitimately good.
The viewers often don't know anything about ASMR either, so they ask for things like kisses and heartbeat; GFE heavy sounds that aren't good for ASMR. You can tell the creators that have made ASMR correctly (intentional through research or personal experience, or stumbled into it) by videos that attract an unusually high number of VOD views. That's the ASMR community finding legitimately good content that's worth watching and rewatching.
