Like they're looking for legitimacy/"notice me senpai" kind of appeal and/or are trying to polish up their own resumes for when they apply to Holo. There is no reason someone with like 100 viewers who doesn't give much a fuck about Japanese culture -and neither do her viewers- needs to play along and pretend she's a big idol star because "it's just what you do" or whatever. But many still do anyway and it's a big fucking waste of time and effort.
