Humor isnt timeless, a lot of good humor makes references to current day's culture and ongoings, or has intertextual play.
What was funny back then, is cringe today. What was novel and clever back then , is overused cliche today.
Theyve also aged visually, with outdated artstyles.
Not to mention these arent some top anime from back in the day, they were kind of trash even when they came out, with mediocre reviews and reception.
If you like some directors work that was good, that doesnt mean youll like directors work that is bad. A lot of stuff great directors worked on is bad. And the earlier you go in their career - the worse it gets.
Shinbou's work on recent stuff is no doubt miles above shit that came out 20 years ago.
