I think the only solution to the demon question is total separation, like in that other manga about kids and demons, or total extermination. Them trying to "understand" humanity is like a kid trying to "understand" bugs by burning their legs off with a lighter. Even if all the demons suddenly gain empathy, emotions and shame, the rest of humanity would have no actual way of knowing that, and the demons would just suffer for it.
