I just literally happened to miss your reply little nigger, but the same concept applies here, myth was the first gen and none of them had any expectations of success whatsoever, on the contrary actually.
Simultaneously, applying on a "whim" can actually mean several different things, and it was clear that gura was a fan of hololive from the start. She wanted to emulate miku, she wanted to be in concerts, she liked aqua, etc etc etc. Her whim is in part not believing that she would be good enough to get in which is endearing because its really stupid, holo en didn't exist at the time, and gura had the biggest roommate by far, with her talents/ideals it was very likely that she would actually get in
It's one thing to apply on a whim, when hololive is not a tenth as well known or popular in the west as it is now, not expecting great sucess or not even expecting to get in, and to applying to join hololive despite having a negative opinion about it purely out of financial want. Due to how big holoen is nowadays EVERYONE that joins applied on a "whim" in some sense, as the odds of you actually getting in are quite low, but the knowledge is out there, if you debut without understanding hololive whatsoever to the point you have to make a defensive statement on your debut, it is your own fucking fault and I am not clapping for you when you turn a new page
