>>6652472i started watching vtubers—or, rather, the vtuber—in the first few months of kizuna ai. i vividly remember the feeling of seeing a new upload and waiting excitedly for someone to subtitle it. i found out about hololive from fubuki in 2018, occasionally watching her streams before there was anyone in chat translating, just relying on my extremely limited comprehension of japanese to understand a little of what was going on. over the next couple of years, i never really got into translated clips, though i did see a few from time to time. i preferred to just watch VODs and cobble together an understanding of the stream from listening and looking at the chat replay. i think it's an extremely interesting and important medium and i'm grateful i had the opportunity to witness so much of its early years, first-hand and contemporaneously.
