It's a core piece of marketing strategy to showcase your project to your target audience. Having someone already involved with that audience give it a look is not only positive, it's optimal and dare-I-say required.
That's not to say it's all purely marketing. I do love watching players enjoy my games, and it'd be a dream come true if someone big likes something I made.
Unfortunately it's becoming more difficult for devs to network with streamers. Between Twixter twisting itself into a pretzel and a lot of scammers pretending to be gamedevs, I feel limited in ways to reach out to others without appearing desperate or suspicious.
