Obviously I can't summarize it all, but tl;dr, she's been obsessively chasing an ideal of strength (partly due to her different relationship with Adam), and seeing her child self at that moment isn't a literal flashback to her past with Ridley, but a representation of remaining weakness within her, which she had been in denial about.
