Yes, it is stupidly culturally accepted to drink here and as such we drink in masses but only on weekends.
In Japan, Alcohol is even more normalized since they drink on weekdays, their only issue is that they cannot drink as much otherwise they'd be showing up much higher in the consumption statistics.
