Depends on the meds. If it's uppers just decrease the dosage a bit. If it's downers then probably keep taking as instructed. If it's ssri mood stabilizers then take as instructed until you find a better outlet for the voices in your head, I recommend writing fanfic. You can ween yourself off them if you work on hammering in a routine that keeps your mental focused on productive things but if you're/here/ I'm not so sure you'd even be interested.

IRyS went through a super stressful period back in 2022 (IIRC). She said that she lost sleeps and experienced drastic mood swings (to the point that she once broke down in happy tear once while reading SC just because a SC told her they love her in a typical "We love you" way). Visited the doctor and got prescribed some mood stabilizers - no idea exactly what those were, though.
She has gotten much better ever since so she stopped taking them long time ago, though

It's kind of scary how meds can change a person. Even if it makes me a better and more productive person, is it really me, or is it just the pill? I'd rather deal with the source of the problem than cover it up if I had to pick.

It just comes off as a quick way to change a person, as if the concept of the self is a very fragile thing. That chemical imbalance is part of a person, whether they like it or not, and it comes off as both odd and too convenient to get rid of certain traits from taking a pill. If the body has a chemical imbalance, in my case, I'd prefer to learn how to live with it and adapt to the issues.

It's one of those things where I get why it's done, but it's also unnerving, not just in how it can change a person but at how common this stuff is. Not to mention stories of people just feeling numb from taking some of them. But fuck it, maybe I care too much about some dumb principle rather than the reality of the situation.
