When things were going good there wasn't a need to sit back and carefully re-evaluate things and shake up and/or ignore current leadership, but a time comes when the ojisans using fax machines with a poor understanding of the modern world really do not merit being bowed down to as walking gods dictating policy, which is how Japanese senior management runs companies (and if you dare ever talk back to a senior you can kiss any promotions goodbye, which matters in a culture where people commonly working for the same company for decades).
I think alternatively they hope that their investors generally don't actually-know the super granular details of how the company makes money and only want to hear about if it's still profitable or not. In which case not being transparent at all about current troubles helps avoid spooking off randos who only know it as the big vtuber company.
