I'm actually a lot happier than I thought I would be, honestly! I think hearing how they drove her to... try and do something so tragic and that she had been bullied by management and possibly other Livers too, made me glad that she was finally free from that company's clutches. I was shocked at first to see all her streams gone, as I was about to sit down and watch her debut 2.0 stream where she came up with our fan name, while eating my dinner, and then looked in the Bread to see the linked Niji Tweet, but now I'm just happy that she's out of there now! I'm happy that Pomu's no longer there either, seeing her Tweet brought tears to my eyes this morning. She shouldn't blame herself for what happened. They're both free now though, and I'm so happy for them both!

Niji would absolutely say something like "collab with Doki and we'll permanently revoke any collabs with any of our talent" so the risk may not be worth it, though I'm not certain if there's a lot of Holo/Niji collabs in general to the point where it would be that much of a risk.

I actually sincerely doubt hololive will allow any of their talents to interact with Doki publicly, at least until the drama dies completely. Yes, she's now unaffiliated, but I'm sure they want to stay far away from this mess.

For a while what I was hearing was that the Japanese one implied Selen was the harasser.

But different people have been implying different translations of that all day so who even knows. This feels like a watershed moment for EN vtubers and audiences with regards to how PLs get treated. There's usually at least some "oooh, if you know you know, wonder who THIS is, you seem familiar haha :)" pussying around afterwards even when it's obvious and everyone knows and they know everyone knows, but she's just jumping straight back into a stream and everyone is using Selen and Doki completely interchangeably. It'd be good to kill off some of the "nooo that's LITERALLY DOXXING" attitude around it and have some recognition that having a fandom that knows where to follow you is important insurance against corpo bullshit, so long as it doesn't lead to people harassing them with PL references in their actual streams.

It's interesting that the response to Anycolor's official statement is "I don't believe a single word of this" except for the part where Anycolor claims that the other livers were bullying Selen. Apparently people are completely willing to take Anycolor on their word about that, despite everything else being a lie. I personally think they're foisting the blame on the livers so everyone will attack them instead, and certain shitstirrers who always hated the livers for petty reasons are taking advantage of that. Unless I hear something concrete out of Doki's mouth, I am not jumping to any conclusions.

This whole fiasco got me thinking, vtuber agencies are kinda pointless if you think about it. Think of all the fleshtubers on youtube. A lot of them are independent content creators with no one financially backing them. There are anime reaction channels that built up 100,000+ followers just by grinding out videos over time. The only things agencies bring to the table is getting accepted to one gives you an instant following and it gives you solid roster of vtubers to frequently collaborate with. The second point, you could probably even do that as an independent vtuber if you try hard enough. The whole thing just seems like agencies are only important because they convinced vtubers that agencies are important. I'm just saying fleshtubers have succeeded on youtube fine without anyone managing them, it really shouldn't be any different for vtubers.

A big issue with agencies is collabing, not so much the collabing 1 to 1 but organizing a collab with someone who is in a different agency is much more difficult and unless you're a huge indie very hard to request.
Another issue is how parasocial vtubing is and how easily these people get doxed despite hiding their faces. Agencies should be able to provide legal support in case things get bad with stalkers and the like.

It's worth bringing up as it just showcases the whole nature and mentality of the company. They won't give their livers even an ounce of happiness, independence, or credit, even when it effectively costs them nothing.

Vtubing, even with management, is a full time job. It is hardly possible for someone to do everything a management company does on their own and stream at the same time. There's a small army behind every corpo talent, and even indi talents (such as Aethel) hire managers, lawyers, etc. Nevermind the fact that you pretty much get 100K subs outright, with a company with influence like Nijisanji's.

A lot of flesh tubers have management companies behind them as well, they just aren't so up front about it that it turns into faction wars in social media.

Granted, if one of those management companies fucked up this bad, they'd go out of business the next day.

Being realistic, I think NijiEN would have been completely fine if they had just let Selen graduate normally. There would have been conspiracy theories and stuff, but I believe if they handled it respectfully, like they did Pomu's, it would have all blown over eventually and they would have been able to recover from it.

This was not that. This was a blunder on the same level of AkioAir's press release saying "Yeah so we hired a minor, deal with it" and even the talents were blindsided by it. I fully expect a similar mass exodus from the company after this because they made a mistake that they cannot realistically recover from.

I don't know. Japanese are the biggest bootlickers on the planet, and they will take word from the company as word of God, but the Japanese are also very polite
This press release is written under that assumption that the company cannot be challenged, but it's also very belittling to Selen, a vtuber everyone loved unlike Zaion, to the point it's almost spiteful

A quiet graduation would have raised some anger, but nothing like a three page termination notice that openly admits that she's being bullied by other livers. The EN branch really did slit its own throat here. Even a cleaner, more concise termination notice would have gone a long way to make this less devastating for them.
