I used to think I didn't care much for indies and preferred corpos, but I've come to realize that the corpos I like are ones that basically just feel like indies and let the talents do whatever they want. There was once a time when Nijisanji felt like that, and that's why I used to like Nijisanji, but that ended a long time ago. In the future I'll probably be more of an indie watcher in general because I'm realizing that's my preferred niche.

I still like Idol, Israel itself might have problems, but Idol as a vtuber company treats the talents really well. I do find it interesting that neither of her, uh, "alts", has seen a surge in followers at the same level that Doki did, despite Pomu's massive popularity. I'd imagine there are a lot of people who just plain don't know about them. It goes to show you what a big effect it has to spread the word, if people hadn't went nuts with spamming reddit and twitter and if her mods hadn't been so helpful in redirecting people to her Dokibird channel, her subs probably wouldn't be nearly this big. Don't get me wrong, it also helps that Doki is planning to immediately resume her activities so she wants people to follow her, whereas Pomu seems to want to return to a quiet life. But it's just an interesting phenomenon to watch.

I wasn't a hardcore 'dachi or anything, but I don't know of the one alt, and I haven't followed her oshikatsu account because it wasn't really meant to be a public outlet and she seemed surprised it got so much attention so fast. If she changes her stance later or makes a more public account, I'll definitely follow it (and I see it shared from time to time anyway so it's not like I'm treating it as ~forbidden knowledge~). On the other hand, Doki on Twitter posted a return stream and was like "I'm back, let's all laugh again together!" so of course I followed pretty quickly.

It was management. Even if there was bullying from other talents (if, because only the company has claimed this), what crushed Selen was her work and projects being shut down, her contacts being dealt with incompetently, and the company not rewarding her efforts in making something of her branch something. The drop that broke the camel's back was an action by management, what broke Pomu was a refusal by the management. The bullying thing, even if it was a factor, seems to be mostly a red herring to deflect blame from management to the talents.
All we can do as fans of Dokibird is support her and let it be known that NijiEN management is maliciously incompetent, no need to get the talents involved.

It's not even a case of a punching bag. Management is shit. Management were the ones who caused Pomu to leave. Who caused Nina to leave and who fired Selen when she admitted she would have been one of the last people to leave if she had just been treated a tiny bit better.

There's a reason why they're preemptively putting out statements about how much this decision totally won't impact the branch at all before the quarter of her firing comes.
Management got community noted 2 different times and several people have boycotted the company over her departure.

Also apparently in Japan the statement accuses Selen of being the bully and bullying management

From what it appears from within the press release, the company had concluded their own investigation into this. However the wording in it used is "unjust practices", which is only an opinion of their own under no stated rule. Legally speaking they need to be pressed further if did or did not the harassment / bullying occur against Selen from within the company, in for that it's currently possible under their own wording that they may believe those actions to be just to their own opinion.

Do you suppose the reason Mysta and Nina went straight to VShojo after graduation is because they thought they wouldn't be able to regain the same numbers as an indie and thought they needed corpo support? But now that Doki has proven that indies can in fact recoup their numbers, I'm wondering if future graduations will similarly decide they don't need a corpo and stick to being indie.

Strangely enough, people in situations similar to Doki's, where they're terminated amidst a sea of drama (e.g. Coco, Rushia, etc) are the best-situated to capitalize on it. Normal graduations can't do the same thing. And even then, those two are a shadow of their former selves despite massive sub counts, though they're JPs and it's much harder to be indie there.
