>>6873053Because image boards structurally reward flame wars and trolling. Nothing generates posts and attention like conflict, and there is no limit on posting inflammatory shit. So you create a negative feedback loop that ends with the board being full of trolls trolling each other thinking they’re pissing off real fans when all the real fans have already left or taken on the persona of a troll as well. Mob of men pissing into the wind, laughing as the others get wet while thinking the fluid splashing onto them is just water. Genuine appreciation, criticism, anything really is instantly pounced on by attention seeking social rejects wanting to spread their resentments. By this dynamic we can see that the supposed niche interests of these boards are not the tastes of picky and informed curators but of emergent alignment of contrarianism by idiots needing to be different and abrasive for their own sakes. There is no escape from this dynamic: the completely democratic nature of posting and thread making means we are all subject to the most vocal, the least socially aware, the most narcissistic. The only cure is to fill the board solely with these people and make it known among them: without any real victims, they will move on because they lost their high.
