Don't regret it, at least the gurrat gave plausible enough motivation that Elira wasn't ALWAYS evil and that she could have been slowly corrupted by the amount of power given to her.
Really, you can make a full on fanfic anime about the entire situation. The drama, motivations, character arc, its all there.
