Because holo talents after their first year get handed more responsibilities behind the scenes (3D lives etc) and also simply just don’t need as much money from streaming as when they first started out. The same thing happens with JPs, and will also happen to Advent eventually.

There's a lot of rules, similar to kurosanji, that you almost never hear about but are a constant specter behind the streams. They usually can't make the content they want or air out their grievances because hololive has strict control over their image. That said, it's still a golden goose that makes them a shit ton of money, so they're fine with the status quo.

There was a lot of unusual health breaks going on with HoloEN in 2022 and 2023 so they were likely having major disputes over contract renewals. Several talents have implied that 2022 was especially horrible and it was notable that Cover replaced the EN project manager. Things have gradually improved since than but it wasn't until that management meeting in December that HoloEN was optimistic for 2024. That Kiara stayed up all night to attend that meeting does indicate there were still issues getting worked out as recently as 2 months ago. They do feel like they are waiting for something which might relate to the life changing announcement that is supposed to be made at HoloFes.

EN has always been treated as a side branch and rightfully so if we compare JP and EN numbers. Unfortunately, EN doesn't have enough strong motivated talents to grow in a niche market and is slowly losing ground to other EN corpos like Phase and Idol, while JP is thriving.

if you're looking for this, you might as well just go ahead and get into indies or smaller corpos. hololive is pretty revenue-optimized at this point, so if you don't care about big budget idol events you might just be barking up the wrong tree

Sana’s graduation is what did it. All those big collabs, all the lore plans, everything gone thanks to one missing piece. Sucked the drive out of all of them to varying degrees except for Calli, Kiara and Bae; who are all workaholics.

Compare to ID, who have had zero graduations and still maintain a strong unity between all 9 of them to this day.

They let Beryl/Clara go and she was the most talented, well-fit for hololive talent that was known. Of course, there's some more utaites like Nerissa, but not many are vtubers and those that are, are fairly popular to the point they don't need hololive.

I don't expect EN4 to be much different than Advent.

Simple, but seemingly accurate. Hololive has the most consistent results for building an immediate fanbase and income, but it's at the cost of a career that may not be very aligned to what these people actually want to do. Bae loves dancing and choreography and shit, but many absolutely struggle to sing more than recreationally, and getting in shape and having to dance and sing is fucking hard if you didn't already do that shit for fun.
Burnout is also a really fucking hard thing to grasp and tackle, just taking time off isn't a magic fix, it often makes you feel okay for a while, but without making fundamental changes to the way you were working you just put yourself back into it again, usually faster than before.

The burnout is real. The tragedy is that the only people who can defeat burnout are boomer millennials between 35-40 who are well adjusted, wage slaved/office slaved for a good period of time, and suffered enough to learn how to separate work and reality.
You're not going to get that with a 3 view vtuber or someone who is professional like Magni. Maybe a 0 to 1 view, but those are the types that will never make it past auditions even if they're capable of thriving in a corporate environment.

I wonder if any of these agencies have considered a staff therapist or two, successful vtubers have to face an extremely unique gamut of professional challenges, to the point that I'd wonder how effective it'd be to just go out and see a random therapist. Having one internal would at least get the therapist side get adjusted and understanding of their mindset and maybe be able to advise more effective ways to deal with burnout. Good professionals are expensive, but considering the revenue each streamer pulls down, if you could prove that shit has a positive effect on either retention or activity to any extent it would pretty much instantly pay for itself.
