>>69591701I'm going to assume that everything said in that twitter thread is true, can be taken at face value, and that it is not an astroturf attempt. So let's put those arguments aside for now and assume that an artist did indeed experience derisive comments and poor sales for attempting to sell NijiEN merch at a con.
That is the cost of business. You have willfully attached your own reputation and income to another entity, meaning you are beholden to that entity's reputation. There is an inherent business and reputational risk that you take when somebody does this, and this is the manifestation of that risk.
>But I wanted to make people happy! Then don't sell radioactive merch at a convention? Who are you making happy?
>But I already paid for the table and the space!Yeah, and that genuinely sucks, but that's called a "business loss". You can write those off on your taxes.
>But why are people mean to artists?Because you are trying to profit off of the popularity of a company that is popular to dislike right now.
This is honestly the least offensive I've seen con-goers act towards art/artists they don't like. A few years ago, some chimps would've torn down the booth and destroyed the merch while screaming "FUCK ANYCOLOR BLACK COMPANY". I'm glad that wasn't the experience this artist had, and I'm glad I haven't heard of that happening from any even remotely credible sources.
Take the bump and move on.
