When a non-white person says something to them, they'll react with something similar to the "Wait a minute... I'm white!" scene from The Boondocks. That's why most slurs for white people mostly come off as silly.
Now, if someone else who was white called them "white trash" or "redneck" or something similar like that, then there's a good chance they'll get offended.
As for non-white people, being called a slur triggers that chip. A mental reflex that serves as nothing more than a debuff. I should know because I'm a Flip, and we as a people ought to collectively get rid of this internalized inferiority complex from our way of thinking. Not getting rid of it will get us nowhere.
