>>70256302Horror games rely on one of three things for streamers
>CharismaIf a horror game shitty mechanics and illogical storytelling (environmental or otherwise), a charismatic streamer can absolutely carry it. This is less for horror games and more about the streamer themselves, since this thing can be said about any game or content in general.
>Immersion Horror games are made with intentionally-tedious mechanics to simulate "average" people in an unrealistic setting. This helps build a believable world where the player can relate to what's occurring, or at least become interested in what's going on. Even if a game is objectively bad, if they're immersed in the game's story or content, it's still fun to watch.
>MechanicsThis is more for games like Lethal Company and Phasmophobia. These two titles are "horror" but nobody cares about the story and the world is built just enough to play within it. The story behind why you're doing things means far less than how much fun you have while playing it, which is why Lethal Company is so beloved and why Phasmophobia is so divided here -- Lethal Company being simple but fun and Phasmophobia being complex and extremely rewarding.
When you have horror game collabs with people who don't bother to learn the mechanics, it becomes objectively shit unless the game is built around extremely simple mechanics (a la LC) or the participants are VERY close. They can't carry a stream themselves otherwise nor immerse themselves because they're with others, and if the game's mechanics are unintuitive, you'll instead have a group struggling to figure out how to make mechanics-learning "fun" instead of playing the game normally. It's why I always dislike seeing horror collabs unless it involves Kaela with Phasmo or Kronii for Devour, etc.
