There has been no evidence provided to me or anyone else that says that it does. I'm sure if some hyper autist sat down with all of the numbers and streams and chat to check if people kept their membership or just let it lapse or if the people who got members gifts even showed up to members streams then we could finally put it to bed. But until that evidence is shown it's better to err on the side of caution and the status quo so membership gifts are bad.
