>>7071006I agree with you on the no private channel shit and the mod stuff but that's kinda obvious.
This is kind of a weak rrat but from your post I think you probably don't use discord too much. I use it for stuff like games, team projects and stuff, and I can tell you the big strength of discord is the ability to post messages in relevant channels. So I think for a Beatani discord you would have one channel for general discussion, one channel for art/projects discussion, one channel for minecraft discussion, one offtopic/memes channel since dads might want somewhere to socialise without having to make a non official channel. 1 minute cooldowns except in the meme channel (20 seconds for that maybe? If it's too low people might chat there just to avoid cooldown) and image permissions in art, minecraft, memes channels. And mods should be pretty struct about telling people to post in the right channel.
On the other hand discord's weak point is its lack of archive friendliness. With 4chan you can go and browse an archive site to catch up on past happenings but discord doesn't really have pages like that, it's all one big infinite scroll. There are a couple pf ideas I had to reduce this downside:
1. Star bots. These are bots where if you react to a message with some number of star emojis, 10 for instance, it puts it into a special channel for starred posts. Only the star bot can post there. This would be good since it filters the messages a lot. If you want to catch up on big happenings as a new discord joiner after the server's been up for a couple of months, you simply scroll up to the top of the #starred channel and click on things that look interesting.
2. Archive channels. This could be weekly, for instance, or a new one could be made at the start of each stream. So the general discussion channel e.g. #general would be replaced with one with the date or topic on the end, such as #general-07-26 or #general-mc-server-launch. Once a new one is made, the old one is locked and moved to an archive section, still public viewable. First post in each of these is made by a mod and pinned. Then if you want to read the threads made during and after a particular stream, you click on the archive channel of that date, go to pinned messages and jump to it, and start reading. For a less try hard approach you could still keep 1 #general channel but a mod could make a pinned message each time a new stream begins, then if the discord channel pin limit (50) is reached, that whole #general could be archived and a new one created.
Of course the big risk with any discord even an official one is that if the server owner / Bea gets tired of it and nukes it then you lose the entire archive. Dads are autists so would be making backups I'm sure but browsing a discord rip is way more mendokusai then just going to nyafuu. So I can understand if you don't want a discord to happen. Thanks for reading my shitpost
