In most cases when it comes to leaks, the leaker can get in trouble but the publication that releases it cannot get in trouble. The publication was not in legal agreement to keep it under wraps, only the leaker was.
Of course, this is implying there was an NDA or it was otherwise classified/confidential information such as government or medical information.
