Why do talents have to pay everything out of pocket?

holo seems to allow their talents to use their old personas, as long as they do not involve the company in any way.

I'm kinda curious about Suisei, though. She insisted that she use her original persona when she entered holo, and I wonder if she had decided to sell her IP to Cover.

Matsuri talked about it before, if cover wants the talent to do a specific cover song they pay for everything, if the talent wants to do a song the talent can pay it all out of their own pocket or put in a request trough their manager to have cover finance parts of it.
thats shit that has been known for..fuck i think 4 years? she talked about it in the stream where she was building that moon building in minecraft to try and win Luna back

Niji is using the wwe tactic, independent contractor deal but you cant work in other places.
In holo you can work in any place just no with a vtuber model. With this tactic niji make livers live in fear of losing their job because they have nothing waiting for them. Cover helps with some project, money for debut, travel expenses, etc but not with personal ones like really expensive mvs.

Because if the talents pay out of pocket they fetch a higher cut of the merch revenue. This is why Hololive is more sustainable and gets pretty cool merch.
It's actually smart by Hololive and Hololive offers a salary and loan options incase the talent goes over so they're not literally starving.

It's actually worse then that. You can do other things but Niji can claim your profits because you are under their contract. So to avoid any issues Niji strongly suggests you don't do other stuff.

Also they can suspend you if you do outside content and take 50% of that months income.
