I’m trying to give my oshi the benefit of the doubt and take her at her word, but I just don’t understand how they could have so much work to do off stream that it would prevent them from doing their primary job.

If they simply didn’t want to stream, I’d appreciate the honesty behind saying “no stream today, not feeling up for it”

Maybe I’m just a bad fan…

Streamers in general who are trying to build a brand have to do lots of entrepreneurial stuff, and vtubing is all about the brand AKA the character. If they're corporate they're basically running a small business with the corpo being their main private investor that they need to keep meeting the metrics for as well as steer themselves in the direction the company mandates them to. Most western fleshstreamers might sell some merch and work collabs, but vtubers have a "vision" that requires a lot of artists, and it's very time consuming. Amount of time aside, Fauna certainly hates you.

That highly depends on the Vtuber and if they are in a company and which company. Many cut clips, plan merch, work on their next model etc. Others basically only stream and let others do the work. Then there are exceptions like Gura who don't stream for a month but then you see Vlogs from people of a big Gura event at an aquarium where she did some narration of a dolphin show and they sell tons of her merch there.

Couldn't tell ya what it's like in a corp but I know Holos have like, mandatory concerts and dance/singing lessons and shit.

One song every 3 months, average length 2:30, lets say they listen to it 50 times, practice it 50 times, and record it 50 times. 6.25 hours total, and lets double that to be conservative. 1.04 hours per week on average.

No way this takes more than an hour per thumbnail. Three streams a week, three hours per week.
>event prep/rehearsals
Grouping these. Hard to estimate as every event is different. Lets just be really forgiving and say this somehow takes 20 hours a week on average.
>Schedules
Once a week. You can think about this whenever, and then you just plug it into a template with some Twitter art. No way this takes more than 2 hours.
>meetings
The truest time suck here. Lets assume they have a one hour meeting every day across management, artists, and coordinations for collabs. 5 hours per week.
>Lessons
Singing and dancing lessons. Based on frequencies mentioned on stream, there are about twice a week for a couple of hours. 4 hours per week.
>Planning
I incorporated this into everything previously. But fuck it, lets be more conservative, 4 hours per week.
>So much more
"I ran out of things to add."

Grand total: 39 hours per week off stream work.
With conservative numbers, assuming the vtuber in a corpo makes their own schedules, sets up their own collabs, meets with the artists, and makes thumbnails for some reason.

They don't really have a lot of work, not for big corporate ones, certainly not for Hololive who we know are currently pretty well managed. The fact of the matter is if your oshi isn't working and she's a successful corpo vtuber, she's most likely just enjoying the life of somebody with massive income and low work hours.

It's basically like NEETbucks on steroids, or like winning the lottery. Some girls keep on trucking on for the love of the game, some radically change their goals, and some just take their massive passive income and vegetate in front of their TV.

I worked in software engineering and that daliy meeting bullshit easily could eat up between 5 hours and 10 hours a week (out of 40).

If we are talking about corporate vtubers, they are pretty big on doing their work in a legal way, as in obtaining necessary permissions and green flags from the company so that they wouldn't get DMCA'd (for example).
At least some of the times when they don't stream, might be attributed to the "management didn't green light me on the shit I proposed to do"
Now, I won't say that the job is HARD, but it's pretty time consuming and, if not managed well, can pile up and clog the work schedule even more.

What if someone didn't commision thumbnail art and is making the thumbnail themselves ? What if someone needs to research games to play ? What if someone needs to ping artists about a project ? Well, it is. Gura can sit there and do one stream a month and collect like 50k in membership income anyway and Cover just lets them all do this. Unless you were in the hospital there is no reason someone cannot do at least one or two couple-hour streams a week. Some of these do NOT work hard, they ARE lazy and spoiled and entitled etc and some people really seem like they'd rather shoot the messenger over and over than admit it because I guess they desperately believe that things aren't as shitty as they look like. Which IMO is a fucking childish delusion that they keep trying to sell themselves and it's fucking annoying to see.

It is possible to like Hololive and yet also admit many Holos are shitty lazy streamers, and that Cover is not on the fans' side at all and will ask you to 'support' talents that very clearly do not give a rat's ass about the gig or fans. Just judge which talents really are worth your time or not and simply do not buy into the false unfair belief that you must support all the girls. Lol no you shouldn't.
