Giving her a 3 month or even 6 month suspension would have accomplished the same thing, but shown that they aren't heartless and valued her contribution to hololive over the last 6 years. Terminating her means upsetting fans and destroying your own investments, so it isn't worth going that far over something minor like leaking an unannounced release date.
And I think they know that too, which is why I think whatever it was that she leaked had to do with either unfair special treatment by management towards other girls for various possible reasons, or it had to do with personal information or relationships of other talent or staff. Or possibly even special treatment for specific talents because of such relationships. It had to have been something bad enough that made someone high up angry to the point of wanting to get rid of her.
Keep in mind that the reason Mel leaked information to a friend is because she was incredibly upset about something and needed to talk to someone about it. Mel's firing seems to be the personal decision of a single person, as everyone else has only said nice things about her and are sad that this is happening.
