Beyond that, for PES-specifics, there's a lot of playstyle cards and such that are a bit too deep for me to explain here (but is all on the implyingrigged wiki if you are interested), but also medal placement, which for this cup was one goal striker, one gold attacking mid, and the other medals playing as wingmids and one as a defensive midfielder, which often picks up the slack of more than one defender, which gives the room to run the 3-at-the-back formation without it always looking like today.
What we ran this time was a 3-6-1, so 3 DEF 6 MID 1 ATTK. The design generally is set up so the defenders have to do little work since the midfield picks up the bulk, but as seen today that can backfire highly. Basically, last week's game is the way it's designed to run, today is what happens when it doesn't.
There is a lot that goes into things, especially starting out, but it's not as bad as it looks!
