Indie vtubers will probably never be better than agency vtubers.
There is an obvious thing that not many people pay attention to, but unconsciously everyone leans more towards it. The thing is that agency vtubers essentially give up a large part of their freedom to pursue their passion and try to bring joy to their viewers. By nature, agency vtubers are in a higher ethical position than indie vtubers. Because while they may not think so, their actions essentially place their work and their audience above themselves to a certain degree.
And indie vtubers will always put themselves first. And that's not wrong. They can do whatever they want and ignore the views of the viewers. Their work and their audience are just elements of their life's fulfillment. They have done nothing wrong, but when compared to people who dare to give up a large part of their freedom to pursue their passion and bring laughter to many people, of course they will be underestimated.
It is easy to see the huge egos of indie vtubers through their views on revenue and profits when selling goods. For example, Hololive only gives their vtubers 50% of the remaining superchat after YouTube took away 30%, and I don't know, but the talents probably only get a small portion from the goods sold. This is inherently normal. For a company like Hololive to sell goods related to their talent, they need to partner with many other companies and individuals. There will be companies that produce products that need to be sold, companies that market products that need to be sold, companies that distribute products that need to be sold, and countless individuals and retail stores. Overall there will be tens of thousands of people involved when it comes to goods from companies like Hololive. To keep everyone happy and no one side being exploited, there is no way Vtuber can take a share of the profits. And when it comes to companies like Hololive, the goods they sell are often much more when compared to the number of vtuber memberships related to those goods. The credit for the marketing and sales sides is sometimes more than the vtuber itself. In short, vtuber cannot be the center of benefits, but the benefits belong to the collective of all involved.
But vtubers and indie content creators always seem to think that content creators should get more profits. They just look at everything as if it's just vtubers and the company that manages that vtuber. They don't look at the fact that vtuber and the company and collaborating parties are an interest group with many people. And the success of a vtuber does not just mean the success of that vtuber alone, but it is the efforts of everyone in that group with each individual having different tasks. In the words of indie content creators, large company content creators should basically be the focus of the profits. They always see it that way because these indies are often the boss when it comes to selling their related goods. They can take 50-70% of the profits and the producers and distributors... can share the rest, the workers can go home with a small salary. It's just business, there's nothing wrong with it. But if you have such thoughts, then even for Niji, when vtubers only receive 2% of the profits, it is just business. It simply comes down to who is the boss and holds the majority of the profits. There will be no such thing as vtuber taking 50-70% of the profits then the world will be good and everyone will be happy. That's absolutely ridiculous because if vtubers are that profitable then the workers and salespeople are basically like slaves. This is the hypocrisy I see from indie vtubers when it comes to sharing the profits of other vtubers in companies like Hololive. These indie vtubers basically just want goodness for themselves, they don't think about balance in a large group so everyone can have fun.
As for Hololive, I find them to be quite biased towards their own talent. 50% profit for talent is basically too much. Hopefully that's just for superchat. If the same is true for goods, there will be quite a few people involved whose labor is exploited.
