>>72203544The British themselves memoryholed how in the immediate aftermath they explicitly strutted around saying that they aren't European but British and thus their own thing. It was an incredible display of hubris, which soon turned into a disaster Britain is today. Once the Americans refused to sign that trade deal with them Britain just started circling the drain, because they wrongly assumed they had bargaining power to deal with the US AND the EU while they had neither. Without the EU's open market and free movement of goods Britain lost its access to our market while tariffs took care of the rest. At this point (now) Britain is in steep decline since it's not only too weak to influence anything globally, but even in comparison to other Anglo countries it's probably among the weakest ones. It rendered itself irrelevant except as a US satellite at best, but in actuality just a kind of perpetual aircraft carrier parked at our border.
Brexit also obviously completely cut them off from the inner dynamism of the EU and the colossal changes and reforms we're doing right now. The US doesn't understand Europe, and neither does China to be fair, but the British should've been smarter. Last I heard they have some Indian gerbil as a leader. Sunak or something like that. From our European perspective Britain is something like Serbia or Belarus, just a backwater on our borders. In practical terms Europe is defined as the EU and countries that explicitly want to join it, with the exception of Switzerland, Norway and Iceland. But something like Britain post-Brexit is on the level of a rouge state like Serbia or a pseudo-state like Belarus. We're not the same.
The only other country that has completely gone to shit and has no future to this same extent is Canada. It might be even worse. I also don't get WHY Cover chose Scotland because like others said and I repeat: Britain isn't in the EU, it isn't in the Schengen zone and it doesn't use the euro. The logical choice could've been anything from France, Germany, Italy to any other EU country. I find it hard to believe that the Japanese might assume nobody speaks English sans Britain but who knows.
