Hard work is absolutely rewarded in hololive. Look at Koyori and Laplus for example. The difference in their work ethic and success is drastic.

hard work can only get you to a certain point, you still need luck to be successful in hololive. look at the cancelled hololive cn branch, they worked hard too and still got screwed over by haachama and coco.

Gura streamed fairly consistently for a year (at least), established herself, and had zero yabs. She is almost universally loved.
She is also one of the first big EN vtubers, so that is not a fair comparison.
