Rather than spend money where it's needed (Better writers, CG+set stuff etc), Hollywood would rather dump their money on a bunch old has-beens and give the writing to a bunch of 2-bit hacks, and rather than properly make new stories, would rather try and extract blood from a long-worn stone.
