The Fig Tree Withered
18 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.
This was on Monday. The day before, He was welcomed into Jerusalem by the people, and hailed as king and savior, the prophesied Messiah son David the next true king. He was crucified the next Sunday by the people.
The tree represented the rejection of Israel as the true people of God, for rejecting and crucifying Him the Son. He did the same with driving out money changers desecrating the temple on the Sunday before, using it as a place to attract business.
This is also, shortly shown, why modern Jews/Zionists hate Him and Christianity, because he denounced them and their theology entirely. They do grift it though for political gain.
