>>7380796I find western LGBT content distasteful because of how tightly it's tied to the dumpster fire that is modern day american politics. It's treated much more as an uncompromising political movement and a cultural revolution (even a conscious culture war among some) than an identifier for sexual minorities. It relies heavily on the "us vs. them" mentality, where every "win" for the LGBT movement must also be spun into measurable losses for others (straight/cis people). It's a toxic shitstorm of slacktivism, fetishism and obnoxious twitter-tier one-upmanship, hellbent on wearing out its welcome. Solidarity for western LGBT feels like solidarity for american cultural imperialism, and I can't condone it.
I'm much more comfortable with the japanese approach. The LGBT movement over there seeks discourse and mediation, not an upheaval of their entire society. Their gays and lesbians and what have you don't frequently push their private matters into the public eye just to smugly rub it in others' faces. They're able to live and let live, treat people well and in turn be treated well, and not fly into fits of rage over perceived microaggressions. It's effortless to accept and support a gay, lesbian, ace, enby etc. person when their identity and personality don't revolve entirely around their sexuality.
t. socdem with gender dysphoria who wants nothing to do with any of the local lgbt shit
