I'm not even going to bother asking what you mean by unicorn in the first place because everyone has a different definition nowadays but the fact remains even with actual unicorns being a minority the homos cannot attract an audience when they are not leeching from the girls. There is a gigantic pool of hololive viewers and nobody gives them the time of day.

Because after the negative backlash with even talents calling out how pushy management was being about "suggesting" they do new esports adjacent content cover didn't reflect on what their audience and talents actually wanted.
Instead they quietly changed gears using VCR and ramping up the esports collabs because they are still desperate to capture this "non otaku" audience since IPO. This whole thing is a soulless attempt at growth by homogenising the content and making JP into any other streamer group. If you like the direction JP is going right now you hate hololive, simple as.

Just imaging how much money they could have made with merch since then.
But due to creative differences, Coco is now a dead IP, making no money.
I think they realized this, and it's why the streaming rules and talent activities are very relaxed and very unrestricted nowadays.
