>>74472984I think Holoearth represents the ultimate conflict between Yagoo's original passion/vision and what Hololive has evolved to become now
Right now Cover's current ambitions are to grow awareness and enjoyment of Hololive domestically and abroad, increasing the size of the market and expanding to new territories; that's what was in the official statement of the Cover US branch announcement
But originally (and even still now) Yagoo envisioned Cover Corp as a tech company, he was focused on innovating new AR/VR technology, he had that TV interview explaining a vision for an "anime-style social network using game technology" "metaverse" future
Do any of us think it'll work? Not really, because MMOs already exist and we've seen what happened to things like Second Life and VRChat
But Yagoo is also playing the long game, he answered "are you confident this will actually succeed?" with "my plan is to just remain persistent" and predicted it would take at least 3-4 years for the project to get off the ground; he also knows massive social games already exist and he's consciously trying not to compete with them
I guess my point is, unless we see massive success or massive failure early, the right timeframe to analyze the success of Holoearth will probably take years of patience and observation
They may not have marketed themselves too clearly to westerners/the gamer audience but if they truly do have a unique ground-breaking vision, they at least seem to have a receptive eye towards feedback and a "haste makes waste" attitude so I'll be fair and give them the time they need
