think of a square
now make a square that is twice as wide
since you still want it to be square, you have to make it twice as tall
so now it's twice as wide and twice as tall, in other words it's four times as big
now make another square that is 3 times as wide as the original square
since it's a square you also have to make it 3 times as tall
so it's 3x tall, 3x wide, therefore it's 9x as big overall (original size times 3 times 3)
and then you have cubes, which are 3x as wide, 3x as tall and also 3x as deep, so it's 27x as big in total
this discrepancy in how fast lengths grow vs areas vs volumes is why you become weaker as you grow taller (weight grows like volume, strength grows like area, therefore weight grows faster than strength and eventually you can't hold your own weight)
this is called the square cube law
