Things like how Steve of Gamers Nexus is able to bypass translators when purchasing things in Taiwan, being able to immediately get the gist of any language using the Latin alphabet, and if you live in America Spanish is insanely useful in day to day life.
Learning Japanese is kind of a luxury in the West, especially if you can take the time to just use DeepL and don't need immediate accurate translations.
That being said, if you consume a lot Japanese media, it could be worth it in order to play the games untampered with.
Though I will say Japanese is a way harder language to write than to speak.
I only made it to Japanese 3 in highschool, but listening to so many vtuber clips+anime I've both retained what I learned, and picked up a bit more. Afaik the reason Japanese is such bullshit is because it's not what you say, but how you say it. Like, I still remember we had to memorize like five different ways to count shit. They were all still just regular counting, but each one was specifically meant to be used for specific things, and the whole language is filled with bullshit like that
