For most of the homos history the attitude from even “this” side of the audience was “meh”.
Their inability to get their own audience ended up causing their company (which just so happen to also be the girls’ company) to use the girls popularity to channel part of their audience to the homos, culminating in
>that cross branch cross AGENCY overlap ban on debuts and 3D debuts >the longest gap between debuts in a branch >the appearance of the homos in the holo exclusive most viewed event of the year All of that was a calculated decision by Cover with a simple reasoning
>if nobody complains there is no downsideconfusing silence with acceptance.
“This” side then started making it a point to voice their preference on the matter and making sure to not to make the same mistake again.
If you think about it, it’s very reasonable
>if my silence is confused with a tacit approval of inconveniencing the girls to promote the boys I have to make sure to inform the company of my preferenceand the way most people did was simply by not consuming anything that was directly or indirectly a way to promote the homos using the girls as their marquee.
It’s easy to understand and perfectly logic, if “silence” is misconstrued as approval the correct attitude is to voice your preference and not to patronize products that go against your desired outcome.
All in all the attitude towards the homos changed DRAMATICALLY **because** of the attempt to use the girls to try to promote them.
It doesn't really have anything to do with "unicornism" for the most part and the reaction would be just the same if there was an attempt to use the Holo girls to promote Nijisanji
