Chumbies, I just got back from patrolling for like an hour or so and I swear to God I encountered like a dozen different frogs just sitting on or just next to the cart path
Most of them were in one area and pretty small, just a bit larger than my thumb, but there was one frog in particular on another part of the course than was bigger than my fist, just sitting right in the middle of the path - saw him too late to stop the cart headlights suck and it was near the crest of a hill, so I had to swerve a bit last second to avoid crushing it. It seemed perfectly okay at first glance, but when I stepped out of the cart and picked it up to move it off of the path, it went limp, and it let out a weak, pained sounding croak as soon as I set it down on the grass. Didn't get back up into the usual frog posture or anything either, just kept laying there, totally limp
I wasn't sure what to do, but I felt bad so I decided to pick it up and carry it back to the pond on the neighboring hole, a few hundred yards away (couldn't turn cart around, path too narrow). Totally limp, no resistance, no attempts to escape, no sounds or anything the whole way there. I put it down right by the lip of the water, but he just went limp again just like before
I have no idea if I did the right thing or not, but I can only imagine being back at the pond would help, right? Either way, at least he's not as likely to become roadkill now
Man, I hope the little fella is doing okay
