This means she has connections with the top percentile of sweaty gamers from that era, enough that she knows people like Seagull by name. This was years upon years ago, too. As her connections network more and get to know more people, she indirectly gains more opportunities as a result via “friend of a friend” shenanigans.
People like to call her washed now, herself included, but Doki did have a time when she was cracked af. It’s a perfect resumé point as a streamer to say “hey, I used to be hella cracked at this and that game.” It makes heads turn, and people will naturally take interest when they hear someone has a great degree of skill. People naturally like watching someone be good at something, and Selen had that advantage when no one else in her branch could do anything remotely approaching that.
Throw “former top500 in OW and Apex” at any non-Vtuber fan who watches games or has any modicum of experience with FPS games and it will spark even a tiny bit of interest. That much is enough to get the ball rolling.
The short answer to your question is “yes.” Having Esports backing you up is a powerful thing in streaming. It gives Doki two communities, at minimum, to source collab partners from and two games to fall back on whenever she wants. EA and Apex already recognize her, and it’s only a matter of time before Blizzard tries to put a finger in the pie. When that happens, they’ll want a Vtuber who can draw eyes and not just any ol’ FPS vtuber. How many vtubers with a huge reach exist that also have top500 under their belt?
Nijisanji had all that potential and flubbed it for…whatever the fuck they’ve got left.
