Excessive shipping was/is a problem, yes, but it being the only reason they went from frequent collabs to mentioning each other twice a year for 3 years is unlikely. Not like we'll ever know they real reason though, not until one of them graduates anyway.
That said, fans/viewers (permanently) fucking with collab pairings isn't impossible. To this day, we haven't had another duo MikoMarine collab after the fujo debacle. They've been in many group collabs together and have great chemistry, but they haven't had another collab of just the two of them.
