I actually started learning years ago when I was more into J-Pop idols and manga. I gave up out of frustration and disappointment (it really kills your motivation when your oishi says at a handshake event that she thought you'd be better looking and the person who invited you to Japan says 'wow your pronunciation sucks' )
I've recently started putting in more of an effort learning again after watching Kanata. I never really had any interest in vtubers either.
Sometimes she talks way to fast for me to keep up though.
